Have You Ever Wondered What Wolf Run Is?

Located in Nicholasville, KY, this facility was enacted to help innocent animals find a world that was safe, free from abuse and a permanent sanctuary for those that could not be released back into the wild.

Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge and Educational Facility, Inc. was incorporated in 2001, but began its lifesaving efforts as early as 1993. Founded by owner Mary L. Kindred, this facility, located in Nicholasville, KY, was enacted to help innocent animals find a world that was safe, free from abuse and a permanent sanctuary for those that could not be released back into the wild. Since its beginning, Wolf Run has grown into a state and USDA licensed educational facility that houses Kentucky native wildlife for teaching purposes.

Wolf Run is home to animals from all over the world. From African lions to South American cougars, from Coyotes to our native Whitetail deer, they work diligently to offer each of them an existence that closely mimics their natural habitats. This can only be done with the support of caring individuals that realize a rescue does not end when the animal is removed from a bad situation-but when that animal is truly safe, happy, and healthy. This requires donations for spacious living areas, strong, durable fencing, veterinarian fees and health upkeep, labor, and diet.

"We give life back to the wild," says Wolf Run. Through their strong rehabilitation program we are able to return many of our state animals back into their environments. In 2003 their entire board of Directors was state certified in wildlife rehabilitation.

Their goals stem from a passion to make the world a better place and to share our experience with others, particularly children. Through the animals much is to be learned. Wolf Run volunteers strive to educate each visitor to the facility. Each weekend Wolf Run is open to the public, our volunteer staff is available to answer questions. Education is the key to changing the future.

Both adults and young people are instrumental in the heartbeat of Wolf Run, their goals are the same. To show others that all hearts beat as one, all lives are of equal importance and that through caring and compassion everyone has the capabilities to do great things.

As a non profit organization, Wolf Run currently exists solely from public donations. There are many ways to support this worthy organization: donations, igive.com, and tours. First, donations are used to feed and care for all of the animals at Wolf Run. You can give your donation by visiting Wolf Run or by going tohttp://www.wolfrun.org/donate.html to place your donation on-line.

Second, Wolf Run is registered with igive.com. This website has close to 700 stores (Macy's, JC Penny, Best Buy...most stores you shop with anyway) willing to donate a percentage of your purchase to the organization of your choice. Just go to www.igive.com or click the link on www.wolfrun.org (in "our interests"), select Kentucky as the state and animals as the category. On the right you will see a list. Go to the last page, and select Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge and Educational Facility Inc. It will ask you to register and then you can shop from your favorite stores as usual. It costs nothing more than what you would spend anyway. It's really that simple: you shop and your favorites stores donate to Wolf Run.

Third, visits make it possible to continue the efforts of Wolf Run and promote awareness about the animals they house. Spring is the best time to visit! They are open 12-5 on Saturdays and tours are $5 per person. So what are you waiting for? Take a ride down to Wolf Run this Saturday and tell Singa and Serandi, the infamous lion and lioness, we said hello.
