Green County 4-H Mighty mustang arena improvement funded in part by KHC
06/14/2008 - By Kentucky Horse Council Lexington, KY, June 14, 2008 – Horse enthusiasts in 4-H District 5 Area will soon be able to enjoy permanent seating at the Mighty Mustang Arena in Green County because of funding from the Kentucky Horse Council (KHC).
The Horse Council $10,000 grant supports the materials and construction of bleachers which will seat as many as 320 spectators at the new facility. Despite the fact that no seating was previously available, over 3,000 area horse owners and 4-H club members used the partially completed arena in the past year.
“Supporting the efforts of 4-H Horse Clubs is a great way for the Kentucky Horse Council to encourage youth involvement in the equine industry,” remarked KHC Board President, Madelyn Millard. “The Mighty Mustang Horse Club will have many more opportunities because of their new arena and we are thrilled to be a part of their growth.”
The new arena is used by livestock owners from 17 counties surrounding Green County. Prior to building the arena, horse back riders competed in a facility that also housed mud slings, tractor pulls, and demolition derbies. Riders often had to be mindful of debris which could injure their horses.
In a letter of support for the grant, Dr. Kenneth J.S. DeSimone, M.D. stated “Having seating available at the arena will greatly increase the impact of the educational workshops that the 4-H Horse Club offers to their members and our community.”
