Buying Tips for Doggie Doors
06/03/2008 - By R. Slone
Choosing doogie doors may be tricky but with these simple tips, you will learn how to determine which dog doors best suit your and Fido's needs.
It's that time of year again when you can open up the windows and enjoy the nice weather here in Central Kentucky. But what about Fido? If he's trying to tell you that he wants to spend more time outside, it might be time to consider getting a doggie door.
Before you or Fido go out to pick a door, there are several factors which you should consider:
First, what is the size of the door you will be replacing? You may or may not know that doors actually come in many different sizes so your door size may limit your choices.
Second, decide on a style of door. Doors come in varieties that have screens, plexiglass, aluminum and so forth. Choose a door that will best complement the look of your home.
Third, what kind of door will Fido need? Some doors are available with prebuilt doogie doors while others while require you to install your own flap.
Once you have decided what kind of doggie door you will purchase, you will need to decide how big the flap should be. Flaps come in various sizes. In order to find out what size Fido will need, look at the measurements on the box and choose the flap size that best corresponds to Fido’s size.
There may be a lot of steps in choosing the perfect door, but don't get discouraged. Having a door of Fido's own will be very rewarding for both of you. The best benefit will be that Fido can get more exercise and you can sit back and relax.
Best of luck in all of your summer "doggie" projects!
