Kentucky Horse Council Supports Campbell Lodge Boys Home
05/22/2008 - By KY Horse Council Press Release Lexington, KY, May 22, 2008 – Campbell Lodge Boys Home of Cold Spring Kentucky was recently awarded a $7,200 Kentucky Horse Council grant. The grant will support their residential treatment program as well as outpatient services by purchasing arena
maintenance equipment and supplies for an Equine Group Program.
The mission of Campbell Lodge Boys Home is to provide therapeutic guidance for at-risk young men in a nurturing Christian environment. Home to about 50 boys annually, the facility incorporates the use of horses as a therapeutic tool to teach life skills to students. The young men participate in regular group and individual equine assisted therapy sessions as well as ongoing skills training at Campbell Lodge.
“Providing grant funding to Campbell Lodge is a delight because we ultimately are supporting the equine industry in three ways: youth involved in equine activities, education, and the health and welfare of the horse,” commented Kentucky Horse Council Board President, Madelyn Millard. “Therapeutic equine programs, like Campbell Lodge, provide a second career for many horses and a second chance for countless people.”
The Equine Group Program is a new venture for Campbell Lodge that allows them to perform outpatient services to at-risk youth in partnership with the local school system. “[Campbell Lodge Boys Home] has truly done wonderful things for many years by refocusing our at-risk youth in the Northern Kentucky area,” stated Marlene Jones, Director of Special Education at Campbell County Schools.
